The Garden Of Unearthly Delights – The Spiegeltent, Sun 28 Feb

After ten years together making world-class comedic music, and having more than 120,000,000 (yes, that’s 120 million) viewings of their excellent songs on YouTube, you’d expect a very good show from this delightful trio, and you wouldn’t be disappointed.

Axis Of Awesome, comprised of vocalist Jordan Raskopoulos, Lee Naimo on guitar and vocals, and Benny Davis on keyboard and vocals, bring their new show to the Fringe, featuring some tracks from their recently released album, Viva La Vida Loca Los Vegas. The easy banter and interplay between these three very talented and witty performers creates a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere and guarantees a great time.

Jordan’s recently announced trans-gender status is an obvious change to the trio. As “the elephant in the room”, it is addressed hilariously in the opening number and inspires a later song using politically correct trans-and-every-other-kind-of-gender pronouns in lyrics of well-known songs.

Little else has changed as this loveable trio delivers their trademark whacky humour with brilliant singing, clever composition and totally irreverent comedy. A fantastic combination.

Songs off the new album include the hilariously goofy Just Whistle, the anthemic We Are So Young and the unforgettable Bucket List and many more. In a serious moment… no, not really, we were treated to a beautiful, plaintiff love song from Jordan, translated into ‘the language of love’ by Benny. Gorgeous.

The renowned Johnny Cash impersonator, Jackie Change parodied Ring Of Fire with his very cool Square Of Ice and Benny’s obsession with Will Smith movies and rap, sprinkled another flavour of delectable treat throughout this very entertaining show.

Including old favourites like Birdplane, and of course, The Four Chord Song the trio thrilled us with their vocal range, beautiful harmonies and the terrific musicality that is the vehicle for their very down-to-earth and Aussie humour.

Inspiringly Awesome!
