Brian Nadilo Reserve, Glenelg, Sun Mar 1

A perfect way to enjoy the last days of summer, Ben & Jerry’s Openair Cinemas is a scenic cinematic event alongside the beach in Glenelg. Here is one of your last opportunities of the season to watch your favourite movies (or films you may have missed) under the stars.

There is a great line to choose from, including Gone Girl, Wild and this year’s Oscar winner for Best Picture, Birdman (book your tickets quickly, as they look like selling out quickly). There are also plenty of activities before the feature movie, including miniature golf, “Pick-a-Pat” and life-size Jenga (complete with cow spots!). There are a pick of seats to choose from, including beanbags, deck chairs or simply relaxing on a blanket, all for a reasonable price (we would recommend getting a deck chair, as they are the most comfortable and have the best views, and once seats are gone there is not much room left on the grass).

Look out for Sundays, or “Sundae Sessions”, when there is live music and free Ben & Jerry’s ice cream before the show. The rock band Husky from Melbourne performed on opening night, setting the stage for what looks to be a promising live music season at the Openair Cinemas.

Bring some friends and have a picnic, and make sure to get there early – it is first come first served, and space does fill up quickly. Remember to bring a jumper for when the sun dips below the horizon and sets the stage for an ideal movie-watching environment. Enjoy the show!
