Gluttony – The Speakeasy, Sat 13 Feb

Taking the kids to a Fringe show is one of the best things about this time of the year in Adelaide. If you aren’t quite sure where to start, I don’t blame you. The variety of shows is overwhelming. However, if you come along to the Best Of Kids’ Fringe you get to dip your feet into the work of several different groups and individual artists’ work.

It’s all a bit of light-hearted fun, with a few jokes thrown in for the adults to enjoy. This show changes from one day to the next but we were treated to a circus group called Le Petit Circus with a great command of hula hoops and group juggling.

Before the show I had asked my child audience to take note of the one act they enjoyed the most and funnily enough they all had different ideas. The six-year-old liked Pop the Bubble Man who sprayed the audience with bubbles that the kids could chase. The nine-year-old liked Matt the comedian who told jokes about nose picking and ended his act with a pillow fight of Winnie the Pooh pillows (thus a poo fight…). The twelve-year-old did consider himself a tad too old for some parts of this show but he enjoyed the MC, who was quite funny and a great magician for kids.

I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Best of Kids’ Fringe to children from 4 to 11 years, and their parents. It’s a cute, unthreatening first Fringe experience and if you love one of the acts you can always come back to see their solo show.
