The Soul Box, Sun Feb 15

Breasts, fun bags, jugs; everyone has a story to tell and Bronwyn Palmer’s My Breasts and Me is an all-encompassing, non-discriminate titillating show that takes you on an excursion through her adolescence and how she overcomes two moderately sized obstacles.  From how they grew, mean high school boys, men not looking her in her eyes, self-loathing and learning to love her “bits”, Palmer tells the warts and all story of learning to love what you’ve got.

What you think will be a night filled with gags, innuendos and jugs full of one liner’s turns out to be more about empowerment and loving yourself just the way you are.  There are stories, jokes and songs that explores Palmer’s change from adolescent to young woman not only physically but emotionally and mentally and learning to love yourself just the way you are.

What you don’t expect from this show is to hear an incredible voice.  While there is some repetition and she does harp on about her message at times, Palmer’s beautiful voice lets you forget all that.  For the most part, her clever song choice and re-worded classics, such as “Memories”/Mammories from Cats and Kasey Chambers “Pretty Enough” helps bring a lighter side to the show.

It takes a lot of guts to get on stage at the best of times but for Bronwyn Palmer to get up there and share what is at times a painful story for her to tell is a delight to see and hear.
