[DANCE/WORLD MUSIC – ESP/AUS]

Café Cantante, a taste of flamenco right here in your backyard, combines guitar, percussion (Cajun), flamenco singing (from Madrid) with three brilliant flamenco dancers. Grace, colour and attitude!

The show begins with a shared flamenco piece, followed by a guitar virtuoso, with some clapping and interjection and one by one the dancers take turns to own the stage. The dancers expressed both the joy of dancing, along with the themes of love, love betrayed, rejected and revenge – and from the way those boots were moving, you wouldn’t want to have been the guy that done any of them wrong!

Music fans were catered for with the delightful accompaniment and otherworldly singing. As for the dance, well the costumes were a joy, even to this fashion heathen! Colour, style, sexy and the way they moved, swayed and swirled – dazzling.

While the highlights were many, the way that they came to a stop, usually with the stamp of feet and an elegant, sometimes almost threatening pose, took away our collective breath. The audience was quite vocal, encouragement being offered in Spanish, plenty of clapping and gasps of delight. One of the dancers also had a gorgeous fan technique that added an interesting touch, both in the pose and in the graceful movement.

Flamenqueando Productions have a pedigree of performance awards and you’ll understand why if you come along and see this show!
