The Garden Of Unearthly Delights – Deluxe, Mon 29 Feb

If you want to see (and hear) something different at Fringe this year, get down to the Deluxe at The Garden to see HEARTACHE AND DRUM BREAKS. A collage of music and visuals, the show is a combination of DJ set and film, referencing everything from Janis Joplin and Gorillaz to a Snoop Dog short film and The Neverending Story.

Tim Whitt provides the sounds, and Trav Nash provides the visuals in this dance party that you sit, watch, and listen to. Whitt has spent three years creating this soundscape, using 300 of his favourite songs (see how many of the lyrics and sounds you can recognise!) to create this masterwork. He cleverly manipulates lyrics and guitar riffs to make something you have never heard (a particularly funny manipulation that got a lot of laughs from the audience was changing Hey Jude to Hey Dude, and other lyrics that I will not reveal here).

Nash’s visualisations include all sorts of references, including classic film, music videos, cartoons and video games, that you will have fun trying to place as well. The show combines all sorts of media and pop culture, musically and visually, over the different dimensions of time and space. HEARTACHE AND DRUM BREAKS is a visual and sonorous overload, a captivating collection of sounds that will have you riveted. It is trippy, dreamlike and will leave you enraptured from start to finish, bopping along in your seat as it continues.

Whether you are a music buff or a connoisseur of pop culture, you will enjoy the show. Get to the Deluxe early, grab one of the beanbag chairs in the front and enjoy the music and the visuals that happen before you. There’s only one more show, so head down to The Garden to see it.
