The Garden Of Unearthly Delights – Corona Theatre, Sun 26 Feb.

Peter Combe still has what it takes to write and present songs that gets kids engaged! With a catalogue that goes back to when modern mums and dads were kids, it must be difficult to choose what songs to play at such a gig. In any case, Peter had some of the classics, as well as some new- Adelaide Fringe 2017 - The Clothesline ones (and has promised a new CD this year).

In terms of staging, Peter was joined by a keyboard player and some very energetic Theatre Bugs who certainly added lots of colour, movement, theatre and voices. It’s a great thing, to get these kids onto a big stage and adds plenty to the performance – the kids in the audience certainly could relate to those on the stage and when the opportunity arose later in the gig for audience children to join them on the stage, sing and dance – it’s no doubt that already having those kids helped others to be brave enough to also go forward!

So, Ms 3 was waiting most of the set to wash her face with orange juice and she wasn’t disappointed. It was a fun set and while the adults were foot tapping, many of the kids in the audience were clapping, dancing and singing along whenever they could.

Peter Combe has a great show for kids and their parents and/or grandparents – a little nostalgic for some, with plenty of energy and fun!

4.5 stars
