Rhino Room – Upstairs, Tue Feb 10

Opening night of Rhino Room’s 10 year anniversary did not disappoint as an assembly of comedians took to the stage to not only celebrate 10 side-splitting years of Adelaide Comedy but also to entertain and delight the audience with previews from their upcoming shows. The wonderful thing about the Late Show is that you never really know who is going to turn up on the night but that is all part of the fun.

Host George Kapiniaris led the line-up, introducing the eager crowd to a pool of eclectic comedians that, for the most part, delivered some of the most delightful, horrifying and hilarious stories. There were tales of meeting the worst woman in the world, the “bright” side to clubbing, cat people vs dog people and even stories about tigers and various other mammals’ appendages.

The audience also got to sample Set List, a new show in which comedians are left to do a show with only the words that are flashed up on the screen for them and no time to prepare. While Greg Fleet’s less-than inspiring attempt at the list left little to be desired, it is easy to see how only a few words and zero preparation time can create something not only hilarious but a show that will never be repeated.

The Late Show is great because it gives people the chance to sample a bit of everything from international sensations to local comedic geniuses. It allows you to not only see some of the Fringe favourites but allows you to get a first-hand glimpse of the home-grown wonders and shows you may ordinarily miss out on. Definitely a must this Fringe!
