Royalty Theatre, Fri 26 Feb

The kings of physical theatre, The Umbilical Brothers (Shane Dundas and David Collins) have rebooted their best show, Speedmouse. It may be fifteen years old but it’s funnier than ever and features plenty of new bits.

The all-new Finger Wars sketch slides in alongside classic skits like Body Talk, Spartacus Javelin, Mime Kid Mime and Dinosaurs. The Quantum Penis Puppetry was a new laugh-worthy addition, while Hans and Klaus are still Russia’s gymnastic legends and the Slow Motion G-Glitch was hilariously painful. We meet Tina on Sound, but The Roadie’s return pleases most of all… with his colourful suit, bad attitude and creepy face.

After 25 years of performing in over 35 countries The Umbies have honed their skills to sparkling. Following their Rock God entrance – minus their signature blue and red outfits – they craft the small details of a big show using only their vocal sound-effects and their physical skills, and it’s a triumph.

Even if you know the show, there’s so much new it will seem like your first time again. Bring the kids, bring the grandparents, bring your neighbours even and come witness ‘the return of The Roadie’ and the best (family friendly) version of Speedmouse yet!

Thoughts from an eight-year-old audience member: “I’ve watched all of their DVDs and I like The Upside Down Show. I thought they were really funny tonight because they swear, but only a little bit, which makes me laugh to tears. I love Shane’s sound effects and I really like David’s stunts. Parents, Ignore the little bit of swearing and take your kids to see Speedmouse. I give it 10 stars out of 5!”
