The Garden Of Unearthly Delights – The Vagabond, Fri 26 Feb

This family friendly show (audience members were aged 3 to 83) ran for an hour and we were treated to all forms of Tap, contemporary and Flamenco dance. Not forgetting of course the live music and beat box performances also.

As billed, Untapped is literally direct from Broadway, as shows there finished only last week, then the team came straight to Adelaide to wow us with their ‘extreme’ acts of tap along with some ‘Aussie’ humour thrown in. By Aussie, I mean thongs. By thongs I mean flip flops, and what these performers can do with their thongs is something that needs to be seen to be believed.

The cast proved that you don’t just need to use your feet to ‘Tap’ but instead you can use any part of your body as well as your voice. The ‘phone’ scene was something you can hear in most streets of the city, but with a little of that tapping rhythm, it can turn into a funny performance piece.

Each performer, the drummer with his ‘air drums’ ably assisted by Genesis the beatboxer, the guitarist and bass player who moved us with the beat they create, and each of the dancers showcase versatility and prove why each of them are there. They all have so much fun, and it shows on their faces and through their feet.

As a side note, anybody who followed So You Think You Can Dance Australia will recognise both Jack and Talia (two of tonight’s performers) as previous winners of the show. Their dance skill and showmanship were a delight to watch… again.
