Nexus Cabaret, Lion Arts Centre, Sat Feb 21

Vane Of Barbs is the brain-child of Kiah Gossner, who is best known as the (lanky and lovely) bass player in the Bearded Gypsy Band. The 60-minute show takes inspiration from Ghandi’s Seven Deadly Sins. It involves lights, projections, giant hand-made feathers and the undeniable skills of Bianca Carbone (vocals), Ben Todd (drums), Logan Watt (keys) and of course Kiah Gossner.

The music is evocative and haunting; particularly their title track Fell, which was a definite highlight on Saturday night. The concept of these seven sins and the way they are woven in; paired with Carbone’s sensational and strong vocals make this show even more interesting and intriguing. It is an experience – not just another gig. Even on their second-ever night (and despite a few glitches), it’s clear that this quartet is on to a winner.

Make sure you check out Vane Of Barbs. They really are an exceptionally talented and innovative group of young Adelaide musicians.

Grace Goodfellow.

Vane Of Barbs perform at Nexus Cabaret, Lion Arts Centre until Thu Mar 5.
