[MAGIC/HYPNOTISM ~ SA]
Gluttony –The May Wirth, Sat 9 Mar.
Festival favourite and Adelaide’s own comedy stage hypnotist Isaac Lomman returns to the Fringe Festival with his new show Hypnosis [LIVE] to once again put volunteer audience members through embarrassing routines for our amusement.
Lomman starts the show with an explanation about the power of hypnosis, stating that it is a natural trance state of mind that only occurs when a person, through focus and attention, completely gives in and connects to the creative centres of the mind. He displays this by having the audience follow his instructions which by the end of the simple task will have you believing in the power of suggestion, and it’s from this moment on Lomman has the audience on his side.
Unlike other hypnotists, the volunteers are not selected by Lomman but instead are given the opportunity to present themselves to the stage, in something akin to musical chairs. Little by little Lomann selects his intended ‘victims’ by having them go deeper and deeper into a sleep or trance.
Over the course of an hour or so the volunteers are given various sounds cues, words or a handshake from Lomman as a signal to enact their selected move or action. From believing a phone ringing is coming from their shoe, to falling in love with a random audience member or forgetting their own name, the volunteers are put through their awkward and amusing paces to the thrill of the audience.
Overall Hypnosis [LIVE] is comical, inoffensive, entertaining fun for the whole family and at times will have even the most hardened sceptic believing in the power of hypnosis.
Isaac Lomman – Hypnosis [LIVE] continues at Gluttony – The May Wirth from 6.30pm until Sun 17 Mar.
