World’s Kookiest Musical comes to Adelaide & Elizabeth July 2 to 26

Matt Byrne Media will present the SA Premiere of the world’s kookiest musical The Addams Family this July!

The immortal TV show now takes to the musical stage with a fabulous score from Andrew Lippa at the Arts Theatre from July 2-12 and Elizabeth’s Shedley Theatre from July 17-26.

Producer/director Matt Byrne said The Addams Family musical captured the kooky nature of TV’s wackiest family, with a new plot twist and a brilliant score from Broadway composer Andrew Lippa.

“Wednesday Addams is no longer a creepy little girl, she’s now a creepier young woman who finds herself beset by love,” Byrne says.  “And she demands the family spend one normal night entertaining her boyfriend Lucas’ parents.

“This impossible wish is further complicated by a bunch of Addams Ancestors appearing, who can’t return to the family crypt until Wednesday gets her wish!

“You’ll meet the whole family of Gomez, Morticia, Uncle Fester, Wednesday, Grandma, Pugsley, Lurch, Thing and Cousin Itt!”

Byrne is an unabashed Addams Family fan and loves the new musical version.

“I grew up watching The Addams Family in the 60s and the musical captures all the kookiness and twisted, but loving, family values,” Byrne said.

“Lippa’s songs are astounding, ranging from pop to tango, power ballads, crazy production numbers and stunning show tunes that are a tribute to old Broadway.

“Rick Elice and Marshall Brickman’s script is hysterical, retaining the zany nature of the TV show, but adding a poignancy that reminds us they are still a family.”

Based on creepy characters created by New York cartoonist Charles Addams back in the 1930s, The Addams Family Musical, starring Nathan Lane and Bebe Neuwirth took Broadway by storm, winning awards and audience acclaim.

The MBM musical stars Michael Coumi as Gomez, Emma Bargery as Morticia, Jamie Hornsby as Uncle Fester, Sophie Hamilton as Wednesday, Chris Bussey as Granny, Dylan Richardson as Pugsley and Frank Cwiertniak as Lurch.

Jonathan Shilling plays Wednesday’s “normal” beau Lucas Bieneke and James McCluskey-Garcia and Fiona Aitken play his conservative parents, Mal and Alice.

The ensemble of ghostly Addams Ancestors features Gavin Cianci, Sarah Wildy, Marc Clement, Niki Yiannoullou, Ron Abelita, Alex Cornish, Angus Smith, Louise Uphill, Michael Williams, Emma Hamilton, Ricky DeJesus, Sarah Williams, Callum Piotr Byrne, Nadine Wood, Bobbie Goudie and Roxie Giovannucci.
