[COMEDY/Solo Show ~ ADELAIDE FRINGE PREMIERE ~ International]

Hell’s Kitchen at Rhino Room, Thu 4 Mar.

Tania Lacy has been doing funny stuff in public since the 1980s. She was that wild child, guerrilla comedy reporter on the ABC’s The Factory, and on Countdown Revolution, and she was in Dolly magazine. Lacy has performed one-woman shows, written children’s books and now she has turned her considerable skills to stand-up comedy.

Lacy is great on stage, has a terrific vibe, good material and some unexpected twists and turns. Hell’s Kitchen is an ‘intimate’ room (literally used to be a Fasta Pasta kitchen) but it works well for this show – which is all about getting to a good place in your life; about things getting better.

Observational and (sometimes) personal themes about getting older, menopause, drugs, smoking and how to have sex with your husband in secure places when you’re in a six-month COVID lockdown with a teenager is in another room, which often had the audience howling with laughter. The closer flashes back to her days as a dancer and Kylie Minogue’s choreographer, which is simply marvellous!

Stand-up comedy is still a relatively new platform for Lacy, yet the show fires on most cylinders (if not nearly all) and it feels like we are seeing the start of a new and exciting chapter for her life and her career and I, for one, am keen to see what happens next.
