[COMEDY/Stand Up ~ SA Premiere ~AUS]

The Griffins Hotel – The Sky Room, Fri 15 Feb.

First night hiccups for this show with host Terry North temporarily AWOL and Christian Elderfield completely MIA. But that didn’t mar what proved to be a very funny show.

Mark Butler stood in at the last minute for MIA Elderfield, dashing in from the end of his previous set in the next room, to launch immediately into another. With the small crowd that we were, his usual routine wouldn’t play so well, but Butler deftly handled it and we were treated to an intimate experience with our host drawing us out on our life situations and weaving his humour creatively around that.2 Englishmen And An Aussie - Terry North - ADLfringe - The Clothesline

Butler was hilariously funny and topical, and all his stories and punchlines hit the mark, with his comedy ranging from smutty relationship humour to clever rants about the correct usage of grammar. I can only imagine that his main show Grammar Don’t Matter On A SECOND Date would be an awesomely good laugh. One presumes Christian Elderfield will join the show on subsequent evenings.

Fabian Clark, dressed in a red footy singlet emblazoned with the words ‘Footy Dad’ and sporting dreadlocks that Bob Marley would have admired, was, in my opinion, the standout of the show with his dry self-deprecating humour. His anecdote of his experience with a ‘three-way’ being like backyard cricket was priceless, as was his story of how not to explain menstruation to a five-year-old. Fabian Clark made my cheeks hurt with laughter.

Terry North finished off the evening with an amusing monologue of his life and experiences. Laugh out loud funny on occasion, he reminded me of that funny uncle who keeps you amused at family gatherings – warm and humorous. North has a talent for finding humour in all the mundane little stories of our lives.

Overall, this was a fun night of comedy and laughter.
