The Norwood Hotel, Sat 13 Feb

Melissa Jubb’s powerful vocals and her six piece band of talented musicians brought Janis Joplin to life tonight in Full Tilt Janis – The Janis Joplin Tribute Show at the exquisite, heritage listed Norwood Hotel. With their psychedelic, flared and tie-dyed costumes taking you back to Janis’ heyday of the ‘60s, making you feel as though you are actually in that era. Not only did the costumes create nostalgia, Melissa herself could easily be mistaken for the great Janis Joplin, or at least her long lost twin.

To further create the scene, footage of Joplins’ life was displayed on the big screen above the stage describing her childhood, adolescence, adulthood and music career. Joplin was known as the leading lady of psychedelic rock and soul. Melissa exhibits this and then some with her amazingly passionate performance and obvious love for the wonderful Janis.

The theatrical, interactive concert contained Janis’ greatest hits including Mad Mad Woman, Cry Baby, Try A Little Harder and Piece Of My Heart. An a Cappella encore of the iconic Mercedes Benz with the entire audience participating whole heartedly.

This tribute show certainly had the audience ‘shaking what their mama gave them’ on the dance floor all night long. A definite must see for any Janis Joplin or ‘60s music fans, but be quick as there is only ONE show remaining for this year’s Adelaide Fringe.
