The GC – Showroom One, Fri 19 Feb

With ‘19 Logies and 400 showbiz years’ between them, ‘One and a half’ Adelaide Icons Anne Wills and Hans hit the stage of The German Club. In what can only be described as costumes reminiscent of double disco balls of sparkliness these unexpected ‘Twins’ both with amazing legs and their band, ‘The Triplets’ opened with the Elton John and Kiki Dee hit, Don’t Go Breaking My Heart, followed by Something Stupid, and Willsy’s sparkly glittery walking frame dance solo in Putting On The Ritz!

There was not one part of this show that the crowd didn’t enjoy, although most of them being of an older generation, this show was definitely intergenerational. With hits spanning from the ‘60s to ‘80s, 72-year-old Willsy was accompanied by her sister Sue as they reminisced of their time spent in Vietnam in the ‘60s entertaining the troops and which included songs Bye Bye Love, Crying In The Rain and ‘Til I Kissed You. The love for these Adelaide sisters was well and truly evident and the crowd could even be heard saying that they were talented lookers in the day and still are now.

Hans focused on the more ‘German’ or contemporary songs including, a rambunctious rendition of It’s Raining Men. Hans was his typical sassy self, with his quick comebacks and banter that created a vibe of amusement that kept everyone laughing during this 80-minute show. Hans sang the hits including a ‘German’ interpretation of Kylie’s I Should Be So Lucky and The Sound Of Music’s Edelweiss!

There were costume changes, ear ring changes, mischievous banter, legendary stories, guest performers and plenty of audience adoration and participation. These two Adelaide legends may not be ‘Twins’ as such but they definitely put on an exceptional Fringe show that any Adelaidian would relish.
