Gluttony’s Lotus Palace, Fri Mar 6

The seven-strong troupe from Long Answers To Simple Questions have done away with the traditional Lyra and sequins and have stripped back and reinvigorated circus, showing us how it’s really done. This exciting and comical show explores happiness and loss, highlighting the importance of community and trusting one another. As you enter The Lotus Palace the show has already begun as the group are sprawled around the space warming up and practicing some of their tricks, interacting with the crowd as they back-flip, tumble and jump around.

What is great about LEFT is that you still get to see your favourite circus tricks, such as trapeze, the human pyramid and juggling; it’s just that they have been stripped back and is so much better. While their props are minimal, it would almost be a shame to add anything else, the groups incredible skills do all the talking. The crew really makes use of the space they’ve got moving all around the tent and keeping the audience interested.

While, for the most part, the show was high energy and fast paced, when there is a sudden blackout and one of the members ‘leaves’ the mood suddenly drops, taking a while to pick back up again.

Sure there are a few slip ups here and there but the sense of pride and camaraderie from this group, not to mention their amazing acrobatic skills, keeps you smiling as you can see they love what they’re doing. Definitely a crowd-pleaser for all ages.
