Channel 9 Kevin Crease Studios, Thu Mar 5

Abbott! The Musical is a no holds barred hilarious dig at Tony Abbott and the current government that leads this country. With Julie Bishop, Joe Hockey, Scott Morrison and his PR secretary Michael by his side, we get to see behind the scenes of George Glass’s take on how this country is led and on what basis policies are made. With a multitalented cast at hand the six performers do a wonderful job of showcasing just how stupid a small group of people can be.

While there is an element of high school musical, the young cast not only act and sing but help out with the soundtrack, taking it in turns to get behind the keyboard or guitar. Glass has managed to cover almost every topic of Abbott’s public fails; from climate change, homosexuality, women’s rights, turning back the boats, the 12-point plan and broken policy promises there isn’t much that doesn’t rate a mention.

The show makes use of a “QUOTE” sign that flashes when a direct Tony Abbott quote has been used which highlights just how much of an imbecile this man is. The portrayal of all five characters is pretty spot on, especially that of Abbott and Hockey; they get Abbott’s mannerisms, nuances and “umms and aahs” down pat and Hockey’s no care attitude seemed pretty spot on.

This is certainly a well thought out, well put together and wonderfully executed production that people who are not fans of Mr Abbott must see.
