Rhino Room – Beer Garden, Thu 11 Feb

In the Rhino Room – Beer Garden, there isn’t much garden but this intimate venue is the perfect start to any night at the Fringe. With it’s early timeslot, Adelaide’s up and coming hand picked comedy geniuses with styles to suit any punter will make you laugh and may even bring a tear or two to your eyes as you experience five of Adelaide’s latest and greatest superstars.

Hosted by the ‘elder’ of the group country northern suburbs boy Tom Hardy started the show with his honest and real sense of humour. Nothing is sacred from the awkward memories of his teenage years to his angry fathers rant about sandwiches in a VCR, his light hearted banter gets that laughing vibe going.

Danielle Shafik’s animated facials and stereotyped ideals of Adelaide suburbanites, not to mention her issues with pseudo coeliac’s and her drivers license issues will definitely get a giggle.

Josh Warrior’s magical aboriginal style humour had the punters laughing as he made a fusion of loud rambunctious one liners.

Nicholas Huntley SA’s 2015 finalist for the Raw award knew how to work the crowd and utilise his Australian/Viet cultural knowledge and cultural appropriation. Whether he is having digs and tradies, and/or footballers Nicholas’s delivery and swag is outstanding.

The legend tonight was Adelaide’s Beautiful Bogan, Marc Ryan. Marc owned the audience with everybody in the Beer Garden laughing hysterically bringing tears to their eyes. He is definitely Adelaide’s lovable Bogan as he talked fondly of his ‘shitty’ children, racist family and even Captain Cook got a Guernsey.

Overall, this hour-long session with Adelaide’s outstanding new generation and also to the legends for mentoring them, put on a pretty decent show and with it being so early in the evening, I would recommend seeing these comedians and seeing their individual Fringe shows. Get out and support our local young entertainers.
