Gluttony – Wonderland Spiegeltent, Sat 16 Feb.
[CABARET/BURLESQUE ~ VIC]
Hosted by Tash York, she introduces after hours, anything goes, nothing’s too weird, naked or WTF. Accompanied by a five piece jazz band, Tash sings an impressive complement of songs while the artists perform.
Three time Burlesque Hall Of Fame recipient Bettie Bombshell, she gives us her sexy ‘full of attitude ‘disrobing in her Arabian nights-like costume.
Vaudeville, puppeteer, clown and mime, David Splatt entertains with his rendition of Sweet Child Of Mine played sweetly with his violin bow on his long wood saw. His adorable skeleton puppet was a hit as he sang and twerked his way through Louis Armstrong’s Dummy Song.
Kelly Ann Doll’s sultry burlesque striptease to It’s A Man’s Man’s Man’s World; is as beautiful and captivating as her long flowing red locks.
Telling us of the 3000-year history of sword swallowing and how 200 years ago cheating magicians invented rolling swords – fucking magicians! – Malachi Frost proceeds to swallow the weapon… for real! I’m still gagging for him!
SA burlesque star in Miss Curvella, reminiscent of Jessica Rabbit as she is, is deadly and seductive as she performs a verse of Tom Waits’ Little Drop Of Poison, while Reuben Dot Dot Dot, a former Cirque du Soleil member, left me in a constant state of WOW. He oozes smoothness and sophistication; the balance and core muscles needed for his performance is supreme. I’m in jealous awe!
Make this show a must see on your late-night Fringe journey. The sexy, curvacious real women of burlesque bring attitude and sauce to the show, and sideshow and circus adds a sense of wonder and joy. Tash and the Jazz band bring it all together beautifully. Let yourself be free to just enjoy every moment.
