The Nook at The Producers, Sat 3 Mar.

[COMEDY/ STAND UP – SA]

Aidan Jones has a very relaxed demeanour. As you walk into the small and intimate room at The Producers Bar, you are greeted as if you’re catching up with an old friend at the pub. With a beer in hand he plays his favourite songs on his iPod and asks your opinions with interest. Before the show even begins you find yourself captivated by Aidan’s casual and happy charm.

I first saw Aidan perform in London in 2014 and made sure to get tickets to his show in Adelaide. It’s great to see a local Adelaide boy return for the Adelaide Fringe after years of performing in Europe. Some of the members of the audience made it known that they were friends with Aidan’s mother, which added to the intimacy and friendliness of the performance greatly (though they were clearly unsure how to react to a few jokes he made about his parents).

The show revolves around Aidan’s time living in a particularly run-down flat in South East London, and his con-man flat mate Andy. He sifts few old and new stories of friendship, girlfriends, his family and chlamydia with ease and involves the audience as he goes. He makes even bizarre situations seem relatable and you’ll find yourself in tears of laughter as he describes what should ordinarily be a HORRIBLE living situation.

Having lived in London, I was in hysterics as he describes the realities of London life in the most brutally honest account I’ve heard. He offers great advice to anyone thinking of moving there and details the soul-destroying stress that overcomes you when you do.

This is a must see this Fringe for anyone wanting an easy-going laugh. He’s certainly one to watch out for in future and is more than happy to chat with the audience after the show.

For anyone wanting to support a local act and have a great time in the process, go see his show on Fri 9 Mar. He’ll be filming the whole thing!
