[ADELAIDE PREMIERE ~ AUS ~ IF YOU LOVE… MUSIC THAT MOVES YOU]

Melbourne vocalist Alma Zygier is fascinated by the pre-war jazz era; Ella Fitzgerald, Bessie Smith, Louis Armstrong, Billie Holiday and Memphis Minnie – a time when composers Gershwin, Kern, Porter, and Rodgers wove musical magic and packed houses.

Armed with her extraordinary voice and a group of talented young musicians, Zygier brings her American Songbook repertoire to the 21st century. It’s like stepping back in time.

Alma Zygier - AdCabFest19 - The Clothesline

“It is obvious Alma has a remarkable voice: dexterous, low and expressive. But she has something else, too: the music, and its emotion, possesses her. Her body moves like a marionette doll – large sweeps of arms, fingers and hands, her face elastic… It is utterly mesmerising.” – Good Weekend

“Alma Zygier has a remarkable voice: dexterous, low and expressive” (Good Weekend) and she wraps it around her American Songbook repertoire with all the feeling and maturity of a much older performer. She has a voice from another era and brings an emotional maturity to her performance that belies her years.

Alma Zygier Quintet performs at Space Theatre, Adelaide Festival Centre, at various times, from Sat 15 Jun until Sun 16 Jun.
