[COMEDY/Stand-up – ADELAIDE FRINGE PREMIERE ~ NT]
Drama Llama at Rhino Room, Wed 23 Feb.
Darwin comedian Any Hetherington had a baby girl five months ago, and has been consistently doing stand-up since shortly after the birth (Amy, not baby Ruby) and the first thing we see when we enter the Drama Llama is Amy and Ruby on the stage welcoming the audience in. Miss Ruby is a natural and keeps grabbing for the microphone, it is bloomin’ cute as! Her fairy godmother sweeps in and whisks Ruby off so Mum can get to work with the gags!
As you might have guessed this year’s show is all about being a new mum; the funny bits, the hard bits, the gross bits and the lovely bits. And for anybody who has had a baby, or indeed have ever been a baby, it’s a show full of truth bombs and warm‘n’fuzzy hilarity. There is a remarkable perspective on giving birth to a boy, the effects of childbirth on your body, your sex life and getting parenting advice from meth heads in the mall. All of this is delivered with the beaming face of Hetherington, who presents like one of us – a mate who would have you in stitches at work or a Sunday BBQ.
Last year I said I suggested that Amy was about to be huge, and of course, she did – but that was growing another human being. And I stand by my words that she is going to break through to a next level of comedic success. Absolutely go and see Amy – and Miss Ruby – at this year’s Adelaide Fringe.
