Tandanya – Theatre, Sat 25 Feb.
Attic is a circus performance that includes a little theatre, music, great physical feats and fun interactions, both with the audience and between performers.
The attic premise supposes a place to hide away or a retreat, many of the props being built around such furniture (boxes, wardrobe, books etc.). While there are undertones of online connection and disconnection, the difficulties of growing up and finding your place in this world etc. which suggested to me that Mr 5 and Ms 3 might not be the best of companions for this show – in fact they would have loved it!
Outside The Lines have gone out of their way to surprise and delight us with this piece, from the surprise entrance of most of the performers (already hidden on the stage), to some seemingly impromptu portraiture, to physical gags among the shows of strength, balance and athleticism.
Circus and physical theatre elements included are balance, coordinated gymnastics, hoops, rope swing and a teeterboard which showed off some great solo and team stunts. The smiles on the performers’ faces was echoed in those of the audience as they left this show – it is a wonderful feel-good show.
