La Bohème, Thu 10 Mar

It’s a journey through yesteryear with a twist! Led by the harmonising tones of four lovely ladies, and backed up with great tunes by Emma Knights and the lads in the three piece band, we settle in for an old-time show. Rita and Kitty (The Misfit Sugar Dames) have come from the UK to join Edie and Betty (The Bailey Dolls) in Adelaide for the World Premiere of their new show. It is classic entertainment, with faultless singing and a wonderful comedic thread thrown into the mix. Smooth as a creamy Ice Iced Baileys!

The sultry Rita and Kitty open the show with British flair, and give us a vintage twist on a few modern songs melded together, followed by the ground breaking Mr Hartley rapping like a young American. Great pipes! The glamorous Edie and Betty join in with a great line up of well loved songs from the ‘40s and ‘50s in the style of The Boswell and Andrews Sisters. Then it was on to the ‘80s with a toe-tapping Eurythmics and some twisted Tainted Love – what a hoot! For a change of pace the audience joined in with some ‘cuppa’ harmonies, though not so smooth. The band was tight, and added another layer of fun to the show. The Chattanooga pumped on, followed by a fantastic compilation of Michael Jackson’s Thriller.

It’s a shame about the air conditioning in the venue. The show was a quick 50 minutes that ended with a Shout! and left us wanting more.
