[EVENTS ~ SA]

Barossa Valley Brewing, Fri 1 Mar.

What’s not to love? A sumptuous smorgasbord of extraordinary food, served with local beers and wines! Cicerone Denham from Barossa Valley Brewing and Sommelier ‘Stuey’ from Soul Growers battle it out in an informative and friendly debate – ‘Which drink is better with this dish – beer or wine?’ These guys are talented experimenters and entrepreneurs with a great idea.

Upon arriving in Tanunda during some sweltering SA heat we were offered a cool welcome beverage as we toured the premises and learnt the process of brewing and packaging beer. Guests then sat down to a 5-course banquet of an amazing array of culinary delights – first class food prepared by the kitchen! Each course was matched with a beer and a wine, specially selected from their ranges to complement the flavours in the food.

As we dine, we compare both drinks, and are entertained as the brewer and winemaker wax lyrical about their particular beverage, informing us of the features in their tipple, and why they chose it for that course. There is lots of friendly banter, a vote by show of hands and then on we go to the next course! As the evening progresses, we learn a lot about bitterness and acids, flavours and aromas.

We are surprised by the creative and unusual flavours, and the presenters are happy as they realise they have achieved their intention of enticing people to try something they previously hadn’t. It is a fun, entertaining and educational night, in a delightful environment.

We absolutely recommend booking some accommodation for the night (there is plenty of alcohol involved here!) and visiting the local markets the next morning to top off a beautiful experience in the Barossa Valley. Perfectly satisfying!
