Gluttony – The Speakeasy, Tue 1 Mar
Paddy McCullagh hosts the show containing five completely different acts each night, as well as his own routine. It was a great crowd for a Tuesday night, and he opened with balloon modelling (very tasty), some jokes, and the good ol’ reliable string magic tricks.
The ear-piercing Isabella Valette could break glass – great pipes though! The MediaWhore is a blonde Barbie with a comic performance. Her perfect body act was entertaining and thought provoking. Next was Jane Schofield who was back again this year with her amazing visual hula-hoop extravaganza. Love how our eyes are tricked by the lights on her hoops, shame we can’t see her as well! She is clever and fast, colourful and athletic.
Then came the Canadian nude artist, Thea Fitz-James, whose piece was strange, but true, and cutting edge. Interesting concepts, and it enticed us to see the rest of the show – Naked Ladies. The American Wes Zaharuk is Perfectly Bananas with a crazy and over the top, prop-based comedy routine. He will suck you in and blow you out. And lastly, Bekka Rose and David Louch from Hand Me Down Circus delivered a clever juggling act, with a wide range of exceptionally difficult tricks, ones we hadn’t seen before.
The Best of Fringe Variety is a lucky dip, you can put your hand in, but you never know what you’ll get.
Karen Bailey & Terry Izatt
