Belgian Beer Cafe ‘Oostende’, Fri Feb 13

The Belgian Beer Café is a cheery place for a night of comedy; comfortable and full of beer which fuels the jokes that the two main comics for the night are spilling out at ferocious speed. Vladmir McTavish and the hysterical Bruce Fummey are the main event with possible other guests, depending on the night. Razor-sharp anecdotes leave you gasping for air as they cover all topics including dispelling all possible myths about Fummey’s ‘mixed race heritage’ to the expected political barbs aimed at our witheringly easily targeted PM, his noble commitment to alcohol and the perils of living in Jakarta with breastfeeding mothers driving mopeds.

McTavish is equally as funny – provided you haven’t already seen him as his shortened show was mimicked the hour before in another mash up of comedians, which was disappointing for those who stayed to enjoy an extra discounted show as is often the case in Fringe Land. Regardless his angle which includes mocking his own hairstyle, likening him to Annie Lennox, a tired looking Rod Stewart or the by-product of Tin-Tin and his own dog, leaves you wincing in horror/delight as he proudly defends and – at the same time – deterring anyone in the audience from ever wanting to visit Scotland.

Go and see the show if you too are able to enjoy a small giggle at your own expense or if you wish to feel better about yourself for not having soiled yourself on public transport. Not a show for the OCD cleanliness types. Fast-paced comedy fun.
