Brunch With Brahms: Romantic Favourites In The Morning – Adelaide Fringe Review

Hickinbotham Hall at National Wine Centre, Sun 18 Feb. [EVENTS/MUSIC – SA] What a beautiful way to spend Sunday morning! Hear the lovely clear voices sharing songs of love and love-gone-wrong, accompanied by the rich tones of a baby grand piano. Sung in the original German, we were treated to some of Brahms romantic favourites, and some not so well known compositions. Each set was introduced by the artists with a fresh, youthful interpretation, and a little bit of cheekiness thrown in. The four artists presented a variety of solos, romantic duos and quartets. Brahms likened the Mezzo and Bass as the ‘indifferent ones’ and the Soprano and Tenor as those who ‘come to the party’. They certainly did! With a light and playful mood, a crowd all frocked up and a room full of white tablecloths and jam and scones on offer, we enjoyed a delightful concert. 3.5 stars Karen Bailey Brunch With Brahms continues at National Wine Centre, at various times until Sun 18 Mar.
