Wow what FANtastic fun! Flouncing with huge ostrich feathers! In a relaxed and fun environment we learned the essential feature of fan dancing – the art of Conceal and Reveal!

This flirty dance style involves the manipulating of two large fans, generally constructed from ostrich feathers, by a performer who often appears to be wearing very little behind the screen of the fans. The fans form an extension of your body, and the large movements capture the viewers’ gaze, while the small movements (such as shimmies) can create moments of tension or suspense.

In our casual weekend clothes we learned how to hold and elegantly wave the feather fans around without injuring ourselves or others! The instruction was clear, friendly and encouraging. There was plenty of time to practice the moves, and as long as we keep smiling no-one would know if we got a move wrong! We learned a variety of moves, then put them all together and performed our routine to suitably burlesque music.

The Burlesque Feather Fan Dance Workshop is a lot of fun and a great way to bring out your inner vixen.
