The Garden Of Unearthly Delights’ Le Cascadeur, Sat Feb 21
Pirates, silly and bizarre dress up, balloon animals, fart jokes galore and Fun-town, whatever could go wrong? And what a great recipe for children; each received a hand-made pirate hat upon entry. There was the obligatory join in ‘aargh’ at the start of the show – which helped get everybody both focused and involved. And then the FunOmatic Fun Wand was taken and the melodrama began.
There was plenty of opportunity for audience participation, such as the iron stomached mother who helped the good Captain eat the slime and frog’s guts, as one of his many quests to get the map to Wrong Town; in order to reclaim the FunOmatic Fun Wand.
While the show is addressed to the children of the audience, there are plenty of gags and lines that will go straight over their heads and keep the adults accompanying them amused and naturally everybody is expected to clap, boo, dance and join in and help as is only appropriate. My expert commentator, who is almost four, wasn’t all that animated through the show (unlike some of his neighbours), but was very glad to have seen it and was sharing the stories and characters of the show afterwards.
