Nexus Arts, Sat 11 Mar.
Full of heart and soul, Chicas Flamencas embraced all the aspects of an authentic Flamenco performance – song, guitar and of course the flamboyant dancing! With a casual seating arrangement for the singers and musicians, we could easily have been somewhere in southern Spain enjoying a local get-together and soaking up this energetic folklore tradition.
The customary open-finger hand-clapping (palmas) and finger snapping (pitos) performed the role of percussion, and kept a strong tempo for the performance. Enjoying a sense of camaraderie the singers and musicians worked very closely with the dancers as they stamped and twirled in their glamorous costumes. The six beautiful women were fast and furious, impeccable with their timing and captivating to watch.
Not to be out-done, we were also treated to a vigorous display of the male dance style, displaying complete control of rhythm. Passion and percussion aplenty – a wonderful display of the art of Flamenco!
Chicas Flamencas continues at Nexus Arts until Sun 12 Mar.
