Dave Callan – I Promised Craig I’d Do Something @ Rhino Room – Adelaide Fringe Review

Rhino Room – Upstairs, Tue 8 Mar A typical crazy start by Dave, he has done it again! So Craig [Egan] runs adelaidecomedy.com and is ‘the Rhino guy’ who asked Dave Callan to do a show for the Adelaide Fringe. Dave has come up with this brand new show, and openly admits he is testing it out on us tonight! It happens to be International Women’s Day the evening of this performance, and it’s a testament to Dave’s skill how easily he weaves current issues into every skit, and quickly bounces off the audience heckling. He gives us some great Bon Jovi imitations with nun chukkas, shows us lip syncing at its best, and has a go at some dance routines despite having a bung knee. Dave has been training in both martial arts and dancing for next year’s show, which will highlight fight choreography. He doesn’t let his ‘Ninjury’ stop him though, and performs some quirky routines with assistance from Mel and Eileen. Keeping the dance theme going, he invites a few blokes up to learn some ‘Twerking’ moves, and there are laughs all round. A TV screen is used to cue the show, and although entertaining, it can be a little hard for viewers at the back to see and could do with a little more polishing. Dave Callan is the king of facial expressions, the dance routines are entertaining in what is an all-round fun night. Craig should be happy.
