Gluttony’s Lotus Palace, Tue Feb 17

Deceptively dynamic duo Matt Tarrant and Vinh Giang return with their award-winning show Deception: More Deceit. It is easy to see how this cheeky-yet-lovable pair have amazed and entertained audiences time and time again.  If you’re expecting magic wands, rabbits or seeing the beautiful assistant to be sawn in half then you’re going to the wrong show; this is magic of the mental kind.

Their illusions, which ranged from cold readings, hypnosis and mentalism certainly did not disappoint as each routine got more and more deceptive. Tarrant and Giang’s perfect mix of magic, humour, audience participation and a dash of modesty kept the crowd on their toes. They appeared to rely on their mentalist abilities a lot which, while absolutely amazing, didn’t always go to plan. Much of the show was also done individually with Tarrant and Giang taking turns to perform a trick, only coming together for their final performance which wasn’t as climactic as hoped.

Giang’s trick involving an audience member, reading cue cards and hypnosis, appeared to be the crowd favourite of the night as they watched the unsuspecting victim hilariously fail at a simple reading test. Tarrant’s abilities as a Mentalist were also showcased amazingly throughout the show, leaving many flabbergasted at his talents, whether they be real or not.

Deception: More Deceit is filled with some astounding mind boggling trickery that will leave you asking “HOW?” but wanting so much more.
