[COMEDY/Stand Up ~ SA PREMIERE]

Cupola at The Garden Of Unearthly Delights, Wed 19 Feb.

Dilruk Jayasinha’s SA Premiere tour of VICTORIOUS LION is well worth the wait. Raw, warm and open, Dilruk’s brand of comedy had the audience laughing with surprise and understanding for the entirety of the show.

Television first brought Dilruk into many of our homes via ABC’s Utopia, and Channel 10’s Have You Been Paying Attention? and I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! Whilst I would have been disappointed if he hadn’t mentioned his time in the jungle, I was relieved that it wasn’t the main focus of his performance.

Dilruk is one very funny man. He may feel the title of his show is somewhat arrogant (it is actually the translation of his family name) and is a self-proclaimed attention seeker, however he comes across with an incredible balance between vulnerability and confidence. He is interested in connecting with those who have come to see him and treats them with respect – do not be afraid of audience participation in this show! In return Dilruk freely shares with his audience a refreshingly honest, yet totally accepting view of himself and the world.

After being privy to such personal insights into Dilruk’s life and his search for love (beyond himself), I found myself leaving The Garden hoping that Tinder will swipe right for Dilruk and he finds someone who will love him as much as his audience does. I look forward to hearing the next instalment of Dilruk’s life and hope to see him return to the Adelaide Fringe in 2021!
