FRANK WOODLEY – *@#!KING CLOWN: What’s With Banana Peels Anyway? ~ Adelaide Fringe 2020 Review    

[COMEDY/Stand Up ~ WORLD PREMIERE ~ AUS] The Factory at The Garden Of Unearthly Delights, Wed 19 Feb. Frank Woodley delivered a meandering voyage of what goes in to creating new shows and the art of the clown comic. (Not a literal red nosed and funny hair kind of clown). A combination of storytelling, improv., prop comedy and even singing makes for a varied and wide ranging show. With tales revolving around Frank’s visit to a clown school in Marseille run by a legendary Russian clown, we are left to ask: What is real, and what isn’t? Did it really happen? Yes...? no...? maybe…? I think we all know. And what is the cosmic significance of banana peels anyway? You remain totally engaged trying to predict where his storytelling will take you and searching for the punchline that, more often than not, is not what you expected at all. Frank’s ability to read a room, hook an idea with his audience and chase it creates a unique  and shared experience that makes a great comedy show. His ability to milk a joke for all it’s worth without labouring it is legendary and seem to only get better with time.
