[CIRCUS AND PHYSICAL THEATRE/PERFORMANCE ART ~ INT]

Gluttony – Empyrean, Sun 3 Mar.

Husband and wife team Sophie and Jacob McGrath and their troop of world class acts return to Adelaide Fringe following rave reviews last year for their show Fuego Carnal. It was our favourite show of last year’s fringe and the team have outdone themselves, bringing an even bigger and more fiery show to fringe this year!

Fuego Carnal (meaning ‘fire’ and ‘blood brothers’) is a show like no other. They showcase an international cast of aerialists, sword swallowers, fire manipulators, knife throwers and more. It’s a very slick and professional production and an impressive crowd-pleasing spectacle. In the spirit of ‘fuego’ most of the acts incorporate some element of fire into their routines.

Many of last year’s cast return but they have all added additional elements to their performance. If you have never heard the bagpipes played rock style, you are in for a treat as the bagpipe player not only shoots flames but also spirals up into the air giving a whole new meaning to the term Flying Scotsman. The amazing sword swallowing act from last year also returns, combining more acrobatics into his act, including a particularly heart stopping aerial segment that drew wide spread gasps from the spellbound audience.

The show also features new performers; a knife throwing act that were golden buzzer winners on America’s Got Talent. The finale to their act was particularly show-stopping with the female of the duo standing in a thin wooden frame which spun around her as her male partner hurled knives at her. In addition, the female of the duo also performed an impressive and visually stunning solo aerial routine.

Presented by Dream State Entertainment, all up this is an amazing visual spectacle. If you are still flicking through the thick Adelaide Fringe brochure trying to decide what to see, look no further. Go see Fuego Carnal; I promise you won’t be disappointed!
