[CHILDREN’S EVENTS/Comedy ~ WORLD PREMIERE ~ SA]

Ukiyo at Gluttony – Rymill Park, Sat 6 Mar.

At GAME ON 3 each family group is handed a bag – or bags – of accessories for the show, given to the parents with a strict warning that they aren’t allowed to be opened until the right moment. As for the show – it starts out a riot of fun and energy, of course that is until someone is killed! Mind you, the action slows at most and then continues on unabated. The GAME ON series is now up to 3, the show has grown, developed and evolved and it is a complete hoot for young and old alike! Six of the parents have been given different coloured beanies and the killer is one of them – to find that killer parent is the quest of this game, err, show.

John Farnham is dressed in a NASA type space suit – the daggiest space super hero you’ve ever met. And his good wife plays the dead body, who insists on trying to be comfortable and generally squirming like no corpse ever could – but hey, it’s funny, engaging and it’s easy to suspend your disbelief as you go. There are a series of clues, quite a few questions with some quite surprising answers – like who knew that Nintendo was formed in the 1800s and used to make playing cards besides other things!

Of course the two teams are effectively the adults, sorry, the Old Farts, and their adversaries are the Ugly Ducklings a.k.a. the kids. Interleaved in this battle for supremacy is the fat that we are also on the hunt for a killer. This is lots of fun because all the kids and adults are involved, engaged and often belly laughing, volunteering (in a COVID-safe manner). And they kids particularly enjoyed it when some of the adult ‘volunteers’ got some very funny dress ups to act up in.

A great show to bring your younger gaming kids along to!

4 stars
