The Promethean, Sun Feb 22

Miss Bee Townsend was competent as a Hollywood bombshell singing songs made famous by Hollywood icons. She looks the part and sings well, but there was still something lacking, and no amount of childhood stories of Miss Bee despairing over the thought that she was born too late to live in the time that inspired her most was going to give it what it needed. I wanted a little more raunch to the vocals at times and a kick line to the music in Let Me Entertain You at least.

The devices used by Miss Bee to help with the audience interaction slowed the pace of the show down as the show literally had to stop so that different members of the audience could help her put on gloves or do a costume change or select the next song and whilst I understand that this can help with the line up costs, it could as well have been a band member that helped as they weren’t doing anything at the time either. Perhaps some background music would help move this along?

Sitting upstairs in this venue, I spent at least a quarter of the show only listening to Miss Bee as she ventured back into the audience downstairs a number of times and not only did the spot light lose her, so did we.

The band were competent also, playing everything nicely, but is it so wrong to want something with a little more power, after all it is called BOMBSHELL.

Listening to the mixed reviews of those leaving the theatre, you may love this show or, like me, just think it was ok.

Hollywood Bombshells certainly didn’t blow me away!
