The Garden Of Unearthly Delights – Campanile,Wed 17 Feb

Comedic mastermind Tom Binns returns to this year’s Adelaide Fringe as Ian D Montfort with his incredible psychic medium abilities. However, this time Ian is out to prove the non-believers wrong through his extensive research using double blind experiments and anecdotal evidence in what he describes as “sciency” conditions. He even enlists the help of an unwitting audience member as his lab assistant, white coat and all. His quick wit and undeniably amazing powers are showcased throughout his spoof TED talk presentation.

Even though you know there is most likely going to be strong audience participation and a high likelihood that the ‘spirits’ will seek you out for the benefit and amusement of your fellow audience members, from the moment he walks on the stage Binns does a wonderful job of making you feel at ease.

Before entering the Campanile audience members are asked to write down something about themselves that no one knows and one question they want to know about the future. As Ian weaves in and out of his presentation he is guided by the spirits to answer some of these questions along the way, and does so with occasional pinpoint accuracy. And sometimes he is completely off the mark but either way it doesn’t really matter because you will still be left in stitches by the time he has finished.

Binns’ ability to think quickly and his magical ability to add a comedic spin on anything is something to behold. You know you have experienced comedy at its best when you leave a show and your face hurts.
