Royal Croquet Club – The Menagerie

Singer-songwriter Jamie MacDowell and beatboxer extraordinaire Tom Thum combine their magical musical powers to create a night of mind-blowing music.

Playing to a packed venue, MacDowell and Thum not only introduce us to themselves but the equipment they have bought along to help add to their already awesome sound. Spending most of the show together on stage they also have their individual alone time on stage really highlighting what their part in the duo is. These two just ooze charisma but in a cheeky little boy sense that just makes them so endearing.

Playing tracks from their LP and EP, plus a few covers, we got to see MacDowell show off his song-writing abilities, soothing voice and skills on the guitar/pedals. We also get to hear the story of his childhood dreams to be a rapper one day and how it didn’t quite turn out that way. Then there’s Thum who does his thing with that magical throat of his. His ability to change and create sounds is incredible and constantly leaves you wondering HOW???

I’m not going to lie, the night was full of technical difficulties and false starts but it really didn’t matter (and I don’t think anyone would have noticed if they hadn’t have pointed it out) because their witty banter and cheeky smiles kept the night flowing seamlessly.

Together MacDowell and Thum are mesmerising. They create a night full of fun, laughter and, of course, mind blowing music. With the only tickets remaining the ones for their final show, go, run, now before it’s too late.
