Royalty Theatre, Tue Mar 3

As an observational comedian, Jimeoin is a dab hand at making the most inane subject seem hilariously funny. A simple wink, or a raised eyebrow at exactly the right time ensures the everyday is suddenly ridiculous. As the audience giggles while furiously nodding their heads in agreement, Jimeoin covers a lot of old ground including remembering names, toilet smells and road rage. In his hands however these commonplace life moments are comical in the extreme.

Jimeoin mumbles his way across the stage, and even this is funny – his movements are spare yet just enough to perfectly match his delivery style – conversational and reliant on those facial expressions he does so well. In larger venues like the Royalty, some of the impact was lost in the back rows but we got the idea anyway. Audience interaction was minimal – like a few of his jokes, some attempts simply went nowhere but that happens when you don’t stick to a tight script like some other comedians. At the same time, those moments in themselves provided plenty of fodder for Jimeoin to feed upon.

The love in the room for this seasoned comic was obvious, and there is simply no way you can leave his show without an aching jaw as the ‘dad jokes’ and random one liners came thick and fast toward the end. Jimeoin is getting older, the jokes are older too, but somehow it doesn’t matter when he is the one delivering the punch-line. A ‘grin fest’ it would be a shame to miss.
