[CHILDREN’S/Circus ~ SA PREMIERE ~ SA]

Domain Theatre at Marion Cultural Centre, Sun Mar 8.

It’s a question for the ages and one that all children ponder I’m sure…what is the superior craft – juggling or magic. Well wonder no more as Michael, juggling extraordinaire, and Cameron, remarkable magician, take to the stage in a “trick off” to decide the ultimate winner. Over three rounds the guys go trick for trick showing off their skills. At the end the audience gets to vote for their winner and the unfortunate loser gets slimed.

Both Michael and Cameron had the kids and adults laughing throughout the show; it was such a delight to hear their squeals of joy during the performance. With each challenge round, the boys upped the ante and ended the show with Cameron showing off his Houdini-esque escape and Michael leaving the kids in awe of his abilities with a unicycle.

With each new round the performers called on child volunteers to help with their tricks, something that all the kids were literally jumping out of their seats to be a part of! But what was even better was the fact that those that were picked to help out actually became part of the trick instead of just standing there and watching which is what happens in most shows like this.

On the day magic won out and poor Michael got slimed. While it was a little slow to start with it was obvious that kids and adults alike enjoyed Juggling Vs Magic. However, while it was advertised for 0 to 12 year olds, I do wonder if it was pitched for audiences a little too young. Regardless, this show was light hearted, full of tricks and, most importantly, lots of fun.
