[COMEDY ~ SA]
Inparrinthi Space at Tandanya, Thu 25 Feb.
Disarming us with raw honesty, Kevin K gives us a decent dose of education about indigenous life, served up with the creamy froth and fun of comedy. A true clown comes from hard lived experience, deep self-reflection and again, total honesty, and Kevin has done it all.
The delightful dance moves open the door to a world we know so little of. Threaded skilfully through the raucous laughter are lessons on race relations – e.g. how the apartheid in South Africa was modelled on Australian policy, how German truth-telling could teach us to take our own history to heart, and so much more.
Family is both their power and their curse he says, and many stories reveal the amazing depth and breadth of this parallel world that has so little light shone on it.
I’m grateful to Kevin for connecting us with this strong, vibrant tradition. We’re left with a curiosity and hunger to learn more about the culture that underpins the land we call home.
