The Garden Of Unearthly Delights’ Aurora Spiegeltent, Wed Mar 11
With the excitement of children we entered the big tent to see La Soirée. They are celebrating their 10th year of global touring and high energy entertainment, and provided the most alluring and mesmerising evening.
The seamless flow of the show and the vivid and charismatic personalities keep you literally on the edge of your seat as they work their circular stage with a mix of circus, vaudeville, burlesque, and comedy: Jess Love – a sensational hoop and rope specialist, and of course there is ‘Bath Boy’ – poster child for this troop, clad in his tight denims and lounging around in his bath tub in between astonishing trapeze and aerial ballet work, sexily squirting water from his pouting mouth onto the giggling front row (yes they supply plastic sheeting).
Katharine Arnold flips her way to the ceiling with her hoops and trapeze work; her stunning face and gorgeous costume is nothing but complementary to her talents. A huge highlight was watching the flawless interaction between David and Fofo, a duo who we visit with twice, showing extraordinary strength and ability on the trapeze and in their acrobatic, mouth utilising ping pong display.
A bit of light reading is enjoyed with Asher Treleaven as he has the crowd gasping for air with his hilarious interpretation from some kind of adult romance… do not go into this show if you wish to remain ignorant about the human anatomy. Not only will you be well educated from Asher’s night time story, but Ursula Martinez’s stripping down to articulate her illusionists’ skill in hiding a very special red hanky will leave you puzzled and amazed.
There’s also the hysterical Frodo the contortionist who bends his way though a tennis racket, two gorgeous strong men (I will never look at pin stripes the same way again) and Nate Cooper – who frightens the bejeezus out of those in the front row with his juggled machetes aboard some very wonky roller-skates.
Adults Only circus and entertainment of the highest, most beguiling quality. Loved every moment.
La Soirée continues at Garden of Unearthly Delights’ Aurora Speigeltent until Sun Mar 15.
