Salisbury Secret Garden – Eureka Tavern, Sat 20 Feb.

Ladies Advice For Ladies: De-Modernising The Modern Lady is naturally hosted entirely by ladies. Two beautiful young Canadian’s portray women from the 1950s known as Emily Florence and Florence Emily; strutting their stuff in complete vintage attire including corsets, hats and full length gloves. Further enhancing the vintage vibe by perfecting the extremely lady-like, proper language and way of speaking for that era.

Prior to the performance commencing and during costume changes, 1940s beauty advice clips were played on the on-stage big screen. Not surprisingly, they were of a lady teaching young ladies how a proper lady should apply her make-up, fix her hair, what outfits to wear and how to accessorise in order to elegantly flaunt her natural beauty.

Emily and Florence recited wacky and era-appropriate poetry which they explained a lady would practice for hours and hours and hours. This recital was done with the help of an audience member becoming a human easel for the book of Ladies Poetry.

The talented Emily also showed wonderful skills in dance routines that included belly dancing and the creative use of multiple hula hoops. We were even taught about ladies self-portraits. But only a lady-like amount of three photos are necessary – happy, surprised and displeased. To take such self-portraits, one must use a ‘self-portrait baton’ (selfie stick) and an iPhone4 (vintage compared to what is presently available).

But, so much for De-Modernising The Modern Lady, with the end of the show resulting in bare breasts and tassels! But of course, for one to fully understand what one means, one could get along to see for oneself.
