The GC – Clubroom, Wed 24 Feb

Bright and sparkly buxom women engulf the stage in The GC’s clubroom, and we find ourselves in the middle of a 1920s travelling vaudeville show with an eclectic mix of oddball acts and a bit of slapstick!

Lady Cara is busting with personality – and an outstanding voice to match – as she introduces the acts, and cheekily sings about the dentist helping her out with a filling. The pianist, who is convinced that Size Does Matter also accompanies her as they sing together about Big Marrows. Venus Del La Rosa is a flurry of bright red, a sweet burlesque diva, fun and rather risqué. She is followed by an act almost Tudor in style, a theatrical 19th Century fencing and dancing routine.

The talented Miss Katie makes hula hoops looks easy, but how does she make bunches of them go up and down her body at the same time? Of course there is a magic show thrown into the mix, and Alakasam gets help from the audience in his short, sharp and shiny show. The maniacal Malachi Frost gives us a side-show with an impressing stunt of endurance, and has an interesting way of swatting flies. Next comes two bad kitties banging their gong, and a movin’ groovin’ Miss Betty Bombshell in a roaring ‘20s Burlesque finale.

This travelling show is larger than life, with a wide variety of acts. The entertainers keep the crowd around until the medicine show has sold its wares. Lady Cara’s Snake Oil will clear you up, and the Cancer Council will thank you. A very funny show.
