[AUSTRALIAN PREMIERE ~ AUS ~ IF YOU LOVE… TO REMINISCE]

Space Theatre, Adelaide Festival Centre, Fri 15 Jun.

Aaron Cash brings us the stories of three long forgotten masters of dance, the love, loss and drama of their lives. To do this he needs to summon the spirit of these masters and what better way than to imbibe three different spirits (the liquid type).

Our first master is Gunther. Set in Nazi Germany, his story was beautiful and tragic, and tells of his passion for dance and a certain brown haired boy. Rafeal, the fastest flamenco dancer in all of Spain, a ladies man, who left a legacy not expected. And his final character New Yorker Peter Brown AKA Con Temporary, this story was mad and chaotic, just like the ‘80s era that it was set in.

Aaron slips so easily into each character and it is easy to believe that their spirit has indeed taken possession of his person. The switch between accents seems to be done effortlessly, and of course the dance speaks for itself. Although I think this show was not what some in the audience expected, I think the performance was wonderful and the characters Aaron created were real and believable in the moments we were in them.

Although these characters are made up, Aaron says their stories are true for a lot of past, present and future dancers and choreographers, and this is his tribute to them.

Last Dance – The Forgotten Masters is a really enjoyable show; believe in the power of dance.
