The Garden of Unearthly Delights’ Studio 7, Wed Mar 4

This is the first time Luisa Omielan has brought her one-woman stand-up comedy to Australia, so she’s not well known at the Adelaide Fringe.

Yet!

A word of advice on that: see her now so that you can be the one to brag to all your friends, “I saw her first!” And, because you will be able to say, “I saw the show before it was a book”. (For real, it’s going to be made into a book, that’s how good it is.)

Obviously, the show is built around the premise of what Beyoncé would do if…? If Bey was 30 years old, single, unemployed, living with her mum and required to do vile domestic chores involving blocked plumbing, what would she do? But Omielan quickly takes this fairly small, potentially lightweight idea and expands it til it explodes. The show is about so, so much more than what the most glamorous self-proclaimed feminist of our generation would do if she wasn’t the most glamorous (wealthy, powerful, beautiful, successful) self-proclaimed feminist of our generation.

If you are a huge Bey fan, you will have the time of your life at What Would Beyoncé Do?! But don’t stay away because you are not a Bey fan. Even non-Beyers (is that a thing?) will fall in love with this show, and leave feeling as though they’ve glimpsed something very real and very familiar about another human being. Omielan might even change the way you see the world. But if not, don’t worry. Because she will make you laugh: she is sublimely funny, instantly endearing, jaunty, smart, outrageous, hilarious, crass, captivating and absolutely perfect.

Adelaide, we’re going to be talking about Luisa Omielan for a long time.
